I joined the 365-day Journal challenge for 2022 and here is my ‘Day 154.
June 3, 2022, Journal Entry:
My mother’s neighbor has these tall flowers growing along the dividing fence in a wild area outside her patio and they are a bright magenta color tone. They have taken off and started blooming wildly and beautifully. The neighbor did not know how they got there and did not know what they are. I looked them up and they are called Rock Purslane. The flowers resemble a hibiscus, only in mini form. I edited the image with a mild painterly style and texture.
Rock Purslane (Cistanthe grandiflora) is a succulent plant. It mounds as it grows, with blue-green leaves. The mounding of leaves grow about a foot tall and then these tall stems shoot up for blooming the pink flowers in late Spring and into Summer. It is native to Chile and considered an evergreen, however this perennial usually only lives 2 to 3 years. It is drought tolerant and used for rock gardens, especially in California.
