May 19, 2022, Journal Entry:
The Agapanthus flowers that are all around the community here in Southern California are blooming out, now that the warmer weather is here. This is a macro photograph of one of the blossoms that bursts out of the buds when they open up.
Agapanthus are called the Flower of Love as the name originates from the Greek words ‘Agape’ (love) and ‘Anthos’ which means flower. They can grow up to 3 feet tall and they are also called Lily of the Nile, but they are not in the lily family of flowers. They are native to South Africa and are now seen all over the world. They are especially prominent in Southern California as they grow easily here. I have seen hummingbirds around them so they must have a bit of nectar inside.
