Description
Strolling down a sidewalk one day I saw these pretty flowers which are called Columbines and they were growing beautifully in a garden with a bubbly bokeh of sunlight behind them. I thought the two-tone flowers were lovely as they were in different stages of bloom.
Columbine flowers (Aquilegia) are a perennial and considered herbaceous. They come in many colors and have unusual shapes in that they have a long spur like protrusion in the back side of the flower. They attract hummingbirds and bloom in the Springtime. The blooms last around 4 weeks and are drought-tolerant. Many people put them in their cottage gardens and rock gardens. They can grow up to about 3 feet tall and their natural habitat is meadows, hills and woodland type areas.
