Description
The hard bark of a palm tree is seldom looked at because the star of the show are the fronds of the tree but I think the bark is very interesting as it criss-crosses the trunk and has a slight saw tooth effect on the edges. It is actually not bark because palm trees do not produce a certain enzyme like regular trees. The bark of the palm tree is hardened cells from the bases of the shed fronds – interesting factoid!
I processed my photograph in black and white for a dramatic effect.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
