I joined the 365-day Journal challenge for 2022 and here is my ‘Day 96.
April 6, 2022, Journal Entry:
On one of my treks around the community here in California, I saw this grouping of Calla Lilies. They look so sculptural and I focused on this one in the foreground which stood out as it bloomed fully in its curved petal.
Calla lily flowers (Zantedeschia sp.) come in many colors with white being the classic color, especially for use in bridal bouquets. They are not really a lily per se, as they are more related to Caladium plants. They are native to South Africa and can be grown in the ground or in planter containers. They are considered easy to grow and they symbolize rebirth and Christ’s resurrection, often used at Easter time or at funerals. The word ‘Calla’ is Greek for beauty so they are inserted in wedding bouquets as well to represent devotion.
