Another image from our recent winter storm that dropped a few inches of snow. I will probably have a few more to edit and then I will move on (smiley face).
At the back of our property the wild deer come walking through most days, early in the morning on their way to the lake 2 blocks away. This is the morning after the snowfall, and they were looking for something to eat under the snow. The sun was shining bright as they were foraging for the tender new blades of wild grass. That mommy deer gets a bit testy when the other deer get too close to her. The deer rear up to threaten, but never really hurt each other. I captured this mama doe in the air and though she looks fierce, she landed right back on the ground and went about her foraging. These are White-tailed deer. Their winter coats make them get darker fur and I like how their coloring of gold, brown and white matches the snow, old wild grasses and trees in the background.
White Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) are herbivores and the smallest of deer in North America. When running they can actually sprint up to 30 miles an hour and leap up to 10 feet in the air. These deer are usually found in brushy and wooded areas. It is estimated there are more than 3 million deer in Texas.

What an awesome capture Gaby! Youngster got a little close and we can tell which one if we look at body language. Mommy's face shows she's not being mean. You've caught so much to digest in this image. Very well done.
