Christmas ornaments on trees are thought to have started with a German tradition of placing things like candles and fruits on evergreen trees around the 16th century. Christians adopted this tradition for Christmas celebrations and it spread across Europe. It is thought that German immigrants brought the tradition over to America as they settled in the United States. Soon by the late 1800’s the ornaments were made of glass and imported to America. The American industry caught on and Christmas ornaments nowadays are made in many styles and materials. Christmas Trees with ornaments became an American tradition and is celebrated with festive colors and designs.
