Description
While in Southern California as you travel in some areas on Highway 101 you will find signs that tell you that you are on the El Camino Real routes. In one area in Ventura county there are old street lamps like this one. I love the symmetry of these old lamps.
The El Camino Real is actually called The Kings Highway during the Spanish Colonial times and was originally a horse trail. Now days it is an actual route that roughly follows Highway 101 along the coast of California; the signs are usually accompanied by old bells. It was also called the Royal Road and is a National Historic Trail. In addition, it is called the Mission Trail as there are many old and historic Missions along the route. The highway and route was commenced in the early 1900’s. I really like that some towns have kept the old street lights to harmonize with the historic ambience of the time period.
