Artist's Description
I was out bird watching and this busy Northern Mockingbird landed in a tree close to me. These birds do not sit long in the trees and just as it was about to leave, I was able to capture this pose, with its mean looking face and wings outstretched.
Northern Mockingbirds (Mimus polyglottos) are in the Mimidae family of birds. They are slender gray birds and sing continuously sometimes even in the night. They are common birds and mostly like to eat berries from trees. They are seen in the lower two thirds of the United States. This one was in north Texas. The ones that sing into the night are probably unmated males and they also sing during a full moon.
