Description
Many late summers ago I saw these pretty white Spider Lily flowers in a garden in Texas. I thought they were so tropical looking and unusual for north Texas, but I found out they actually grow easily here and are a perennial flower. I photographed this close up of one of them, which shows details of the pollen at the end of their stamens. I also liked the dark green foliage around the white flowers.
White Spider Lilies (Lycoris albiflora) grow from bulbs. They have narrow petals and bloom in the late summer to early fall seasons. They can grow up to two feet tall and like to have full sun. They are native to Japan and do not require a lot of water.
