March 21, 2022, Journal Entry:
Flowers of SoCal
There are so many varieties of flowers around SoCal (Southern California) and I have been photographing them as I find them. Some around my mother’s place and some as we go to appointments in the city. I have a stash to edit for awhile so I will probably be posting flowers for an extensive period of time. On some of the images I will play with the editing as I did today for this sunflower. I gave it an impressionist technique in vivid colors. I think it evokes an emotion of isolation and perhaps loneliness which is not really my intention but I am going to leave it as it is.
The common sunflower (Helianthus annuus) can grow up to ten feet tall. Inside the flower is actually hundreds of tiny flowers called disk flowers which turn into edible seeds.
