I joined the 365-day Journal challenge for 2022 and here is my ‘Day 241’.
Aug 29, 2022, Journal Entry:
On my walk yesterday to take the food scraps to the organic waste receptacles, I decided to cut through the courtyard area in the community. There is a section with fountains and the fountains are made of metal statues of herons. I saw a couple of hummingbirds there, taking turns in the water that flowed from the statue’s beak. They stuck their wings in the water and sipped the water as well. I could have stood there all day watching them but had to get back. I did get a few shots of one playing in the water because I always carry my camera with me for such photo ops as this that may occur. I believe this is a Rufous hummingbird as they are common here in California.
Rufous Hummingbirds (Selasphorus rufus) are commonly seen throughout California and the western part of the United States. They mostly feed on nectar and also insects. They have been known to take insects out of spider webs as well as the spiders.
