Description
My mother had these pretty gladiolus flowers growing in her garden in California and I thought they were quite unusual with the red and yellow tones. They were backed up to a shady area of her garden so I emphasized the dark background by adding a slight dark edge to the photograph which I think really brought out the bright colors of the flowers. I do love visiting her and checking out so many varieties of flowers that grow and do well in California.
Gladiolus are in a genus of perennial cormous plants and are in the Iris family of flowers. Iridaceae is the technical name. They are also known as Sword Lily and grow from bulbs planted in the Spring. They originated in South Africa and grow easily in the United States of America.
