Description
In the middle of the summer of 2022, I was outside hiking around a field meadow near us and saw this sweet baby deer, called a fawn, standing in the wild area of oak trees that are on the edge of the field. It was looking for its mama, which was not too far away. The fawns were being born at this time of year and travel through the fields and meadow by our property following their ‘tribe’ to forage for food. This little one is almost hidden by the tall wild grasses. I processed the image in a slight illustrated and artsy style. This is a baby White-tailed deer.
White Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) are herbivores and the smallest of deer in North America. When running they can actually sprint up to 30 miles an hour and leap up to 10 feet in the air. These deer are usually found in brushy and wooded areas. It is estimated there are more than 3 million deer in Texas.
