I joined the 365-day Journal challenge for 2022 and here is my ‘Day 236’.
Aug 24, 2022, Journal Entry:
These unusual plants are growing along a sidewalk near my mother’s place. I thought they looked like alien pods with orange spikes. After researching what it is, I found that it is quite an interesting plant called Lions Tail and also see that it must love the California weather because they are growing tall and wide in this spot.
Lions Tail (Leonotis leonurus) is also called Lions Ear or Wild Daggas and are in the Mint family of plants. They have fuzzy orange flowers that bloom from Spring to Fall. They are native to South Africa and are a fast grower. They attract hummingbirds and butterflies, and they can grow up to 8 feet tall. Fun fact: The leaves have an aroma like herbs if they are pressed.
