At the end of Fall and start of Winter, the Cedar Waxwing birds come through our part of north Texas to look for the berries that have developed on the hackberry and cedar trees. This one stopped by at a wild tree stand that edges a meadow and the oak trees behind it were in fall autumn tones. I processed the image with an illustrated and painterly style for an artsy seasonal appearance.
The Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) is most common in the wintertime in Texas, where this one and its flock was, starting in Fall. They love to eat the wild berries from trees. They also eat insects, but they can actually survive on fruit alone for several months. Unfortunately, some can die if they eat too much old fruit that became fermented from being overripe. They are in the Bombycillidae family of birds. A fun fact is that the oldest known Cedar Waxwing was just barely over 7 years old – he was banded in Maryland in 2008 and recaptured in the same state in 2014.

Hello! My main focus is nature photography, which is my favorite subject, especially flora and fauna that are naturally around my area in North Texas. In addition, I have taken to processing some of my photographs with digital art effects which brings out an artistic flair in an abstract or painterly style. I dabble in other genre of photography such as food, architecture and road trip travels. I also enjoy pairing up my photographic art with Bible Scripture. My Photographic Scripture Collection is called 'Faith-Devotional' and is listed first in my Collections tab because I want to honor God first in all that I do in life and art. I have slowly started to paint again which I haven't done since the 1970's. I have a few of my paintings...
