May 31, 2022, Journal Entry:
The pretty Begonia plant in my mom’s planter garden is blooming in these pretty peach-orange tones. This close up shows some of the golden colors in the center of the petals. These are called Tuberous Begonia flowers. It is a nice bright tone for cheering up the garden.
Tuberous Begonia flowers (tuber Hybrida) are considered a showy plant because of their bright colors and forms they come in. Flower experts called this a Picotee type as the edges of the petals are a different color than the center petals. These types of begonias were developed in the middle 1800’s for their large flowers. They were discovered in the forests of South America and hybridized in Europe and North America.
