April 27, 2022, Journal Entry:
This is a blooming Crenate Orchid Cactus after a recent rain and on a cloudy morning. The pink flower is striking as it starts to open up during the night. You can still see some raindrops on the petals. This portrait of the bloom shows a bit of the paddle like leaves of the cactus.
Crenate Orchid Cactus (Epiphyllum crenatum) are native to South and Central America. It will bloom in Spring and Autumn, very pretty flowers that open up wide at night. They actually have a fragrance and are mostly white in color but sometimes you see pink, orange, red and purple tones as well.
