May 20, 2022, Journal Entry:
Here is another lush growing flower that I see growing along gardens and fence lines in Southern California. It is a pretty and tropical looking flower which is called Alstroemeria; this particular variety is called Candy Alstroemeria because of its pink tones. I edited this photograph with a watercolor technique and texture.
Alstroemeria is native to South America, mostly Brazil and Chile. It grows from tuberous rhizomes and grows best in tropical climate; they do well here in California though. This variety of Candy Alstroemeria can grow up to 3 feet tall. They are also called Lily of the Incas or Peruvian Lily. They are named after a Swedish Baron, named Claus von Alstromer. He introduced this flower to Europe in the 1700’s. They symbolize devotion, friendship and commitment which also makes them a popular flower for florists to include in bouquets.
