These pretty Cymbidium Orchids are in full bloom and seem to have open mouths to scream out their beauty. My mother grows these orchids in her little patio garden in California and they bring her much joy when they bloom like this. I love to see them when I am out there visiting in the right blooming season. These have such a beautiful magenta pink tone.
These type orchids are the oldest orchids grown among orchid growers, mostly in the foothills of the Himalayas. Confucius even mentions them in 550 BC as the Kings of Fragrance. They were actually formally named Cymbidium orchids in 1799 by a botanist named Olof Swartz; he was famous for having a collection of over 6000 orchids. He called these orchids little boats and the latin word for boat (or cup,bowl) is Cymba, which these flowers are derived from. Hello! My main focus is nature photography, which is my favorite subject, especially flora and fauna that are naturally around my area in North Texas. In addition, I have taken to processing some of my photographs with digital art effects which brings out an artistic flair in an abstract or painterly style.
