Description
These pretty Cymbidium Orchids are in full bloom and seem to have open mouths to scream out their beauty. My mother grows these orchids in her little patio garden in California and they bring her much joy when they bloom like this. I love to see them when I am out there visiting in the right blooming season. These have such a beautiful magenta pink tone.
These type orchids are the oldest orchids grown among orchid growers, mostly in the foothills of the Himalayas. Confucius even mentions them in 550 BC as the Kings of Fragrance. They were actually formally named Cymbidium orchids in 1799 by a botanist named Olof Swartz; he was famous for having a collection of over 6000 orchids. He called these orchids little boats and the latin word for boat (or cup, bowl) is Cymba, which these flowers are derived from. These seem like they would be delicate but with the right light and moisture they are easy to grow. My mother has a green thumb and they grow well on her patio in the California weather.
